Just a little background on how we got started, ever since I was a child I've dreamed of owning my own business. The problem was that I didn't know what type of business to start. In 2016, on my birthday, my grandfather told me that this was going to be the year that I needed to finally get a business started.

 

When I purchased my first drone I had no idea where it would lead me. I quickly fell in love with flying it. Not only was I able to take great video with it, but it was also fun to fly. I constantly had friends asking me to take pictures of their house, their farm, their construction project, etc. The problem was that at the time the regulations were far too strict to use my UAV in exchange for any type of compensation. You were required to get a 333 exemption and then hold a pilot's license which I didn't have. With these restrictions, I couldn't even consider a business offering services like this.

 

It was in my grandfather's garage at the beginning of 2016 that the idea was first mentioned. We were putting a new shell on my Phantom 3 after I had received horrible repair work from another popular drone repair shop. It was then that my grandfather suggested that we may have found a business idea. I didn't take it seriously and just kind of brushed the idea to the side thinking that I'd never be able to make it just offering basic repairs. On June 21, 2016 the FAA announced new regulations under Part 107. To use your drone for commercial purposes you now only had to take an exam, pay a fee, and go through a TSA background check. I took this as a sign and knew it was time to enter the business market. I quickly started researching what I needed to do to make this business legal. After lots of reading online I learned how to set up an LLC, get a business license, etc. Now all I needed to do was pass the part 107 exam. I eagerly scheduled an appointment to take it on August 29th at 9:00AM (The earliest the closest testing center offered it), the first day that it was offered to the public. After lots of studying I was able to pass the exam and become part of a group of people who were the first in the country to pass the Part 107 exam. Things have been falling into place ever since.

 

Unfortunately, my grandfather passed away in May of 2016 and wasn't able to see the result of the idea he'd presented to me. There is no doubt in my mind that he's still with us spiritually helping guide us every step of the way.
